New tube range, featuring Frodinflies!
I'm absolutely delighted to announce that going forward I'll be tying exclusively on the Frödin FITS tubing system. I've been testing it out for the past while and it's revolutionised the tube patterns and sizes that can be tied. It's much easier to tie small tubes as the FITS tubing is very flexible and much “neater” than the traditional plastic tubing I used.

It took me a while to get used to it admittedly but once I worked it out I couldn't go back for my tube flies. I tested out some tubes on the river Tay recently and the all swam beautifully. What was interesting is that they sank every bit as fast as my usual heavy tubes, but swam with the current much more enticingly. The cone size dictates the weight and it's a much simpler system as a fly maker to follow. I also find them really easy to cast due to the concentrated weight.
There are several cone options-
Tungsten cone- these are available in a range of colours , and sink really well. The shape helps the fly to cut through the water and really swim
Half Tungsten turbo- the concentrated weight really steers the fly in the water , whilst creating turbulence which gives the fly a medium profile
Tungsten Turbo Tube- very popular style now for “No-body” style flies, these move terrifically well with a free swinging hook. The wing is tied on the small tube section in front of the TTT and the flared rear section supports the materials . The advantage is that you can then use the softest materials you dare for incredibly lifelike movement
Brass Turbo Tube- similar to the TTT but lighter in weight. Can be combined with tungsten cones, brass cones & turbo cones to create endless possibilities
I’ve used FITS tubing to make some shrimps where it works beautifully with small tungsten cones. I will expand this range in the coming weeks but have listed a good range for the backend in Scotland. These are available on the website now
